I went to the salon to get my legs waxed. After calling several salons in the area I made an appointment with them (mainly because they had an opening the very next day and I was getting married that weekend). They quoted me 70$ to get my legs waxed. I have had my legs waxed before and it usually takes about half an hour and does not hurt nearly as badly as it did this particular day.
The wax kept balling up on my legs and the hair would not come off. The technician accused me of wearing lotion and having fine blonde hair. I was wearing NO lotion and no one that ever had waxed my legs before had any problems removing the hair. I was concerned the wax was cheap or old. She had to do the same areas several times and my skin became very raw and even had blood drawn to the surface. Needless to say this was very very painful. When she was finished I could feel the hair still on my legs and she tried to get some of it off but I was in too much pain to let her continue.
She took an hour and a half on a job that usually takes half an hour. When I went to the counter to check out they tried to charge me a hundred and forty dollars. I told them they had quoted me 70$ on the phone and they said that price was PER LEG. They gave me a 15$ discount for the confusion and the lady was very rude.
I was astonished and embarassed. I had never had my legs waxed in Birmingham before so I thought maybe salons there do quote per-leg. After leaving I called several other salons and after they gave me their price I would ask, "is that price for one leg or two?" Every time I asked that the girl would chuckle and say, "Um two." They thought it was absurd a salon would quote me a price for only one leg.
When I was at the salon my legs were so numb and sticky from the wax it was hard to tell exactly how much hair was left on them. I have never had wax stay on my legs like that so I am convinced they used bad wax or have a very untrained staff. When I finally got all of the wax off of my legs and returned home I realized my legs were still very very hairy. I had black long hairs still on my legs after being tortured for 1.5 hrs and paying 125$ (not to mention being treated rudely and treated like I was an idiot for thinking the price was for both legs).
I am also concerned about health issues because the girl used the same wax they do on everyone and my legs were bleeding in some spots. She would touch my legs that had been bleeding with the wax stick and dip it right back into the pot. I have only had my legs waxed twice before this but each time it took less than half the time, half the pain, and half the money (not to mention my legs were actually smooth and hairless after the process). I did get this done in larger cities such as NYC where they have more experience waxing, but if this salon in Birmingham does not know how to wax it should not offer it as a service. They also should make it clear that 70$ is for one leg only or quote 140$ for BOTH LEGS.
I only waxed my legs because my wedding was that weekend and I wanted smooth legs for my honeymoon. Needless to say that didn't happen and I had to shave every day!
I never had my hair cut there so the beauticians may be talented, but they should have their waxing license revoked and the management is down right CROOKED!
I sent this same report to the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU last month and was informed today this company had not responded in the 30 day period so they would be getting a negative rating from them. Sounds pretty guilty to me that they did not even RESPOND to my claim! They know they are pathetic.
Save your time and money and go somewhere else!
