My mother lived in Californa and used Secure Horizons from Pacificare as her Medicare Advantage insurance. The problem happened when she moved to Iowa in Sept. The program that she was in with Secure Horizons did not cover Iowa so it should have been as easy as disenrolling her at the end of Sept and allow Medicare to take over again right? WRONG!!!
We called AND wrote a letter telling them that she was now in Iowa as of Sept 18th so cancel this policy so that Medicare would pay her costly ongoing medical bills. They had a disenrollment date of NOVEMBER 1st instead of October 1st. Now my mother came to Iowa with pneumonia so her bills are very high and she only has social security as income. I explained all of this to Secure Horizons and they said "too bad" we are not changing the date. Now medicare won't pay her bills because she has Secure Horizon in Oct. And Secure Horizon won't pay her bills because they don't cover Iowa. Currently Elderly services is trying to help with this situation but in the meantime my mom who has never been late on a bill is getting threatening letters from, hospitals, labs, ect.
Secure Horizon knows when my mom moved to Iowa so as far as I am concerned they are committing fraud by not changing the date to the actual date she moved, I sent a letter telling them the date and I phoned them. I know that Social security fraud devision is looking into it but people should know what this company is like to deal with.
