This company called to solicit my business for what the caller called medical insurance. I have many health problems, am uninsured, so the first thing I asked was if there is a preexisting condition clause. I was told there was none, and that I would immediately be effective on that day. I was also told this was a PPO plan and I could use it as often as needed.
When I got the plan brochure, I immediately noticed there IS a 12 MONTH PREEXISTING CONDITION CLAUSE. I also found that you could only use this "plan" to see a doctor 5 VISITS PER YEAR! They also have a bunch of other "discounts" available.
I called to cancel the day I got the brochure. Was told by Allison, the manager of the broker's office that I needed to call IAB. She then proceded to try to bait and switch me to another, even more worthless plan stating that it DOESN'T HAVE A PREEXISTING CONDITION CLAUSE. When I lookd this one up, I could only see a doctor 4 TIMES PER YEAR, AND THE PREMIUM WAS $30 MORE A MONTH!
Well, I faxed a request for cancellation on the basis of the solicitor's lies, and DID get $100 of my $239.90 back. I am continuing the fight for the rest of it as I was out-and-out lied to in order for someone to make a sale. Being desperate for health insurance blindsided me to the truth of what was really being done and I should have told them to send info first, then maybe I'd buy this thing.
I am filing with the Texas Insurance Commision, have filed with the Oregon Insurance Commision. Oregon couldn't help me due to our laws having this "loophole" which they're trying to fix. I also was advised to contact the Department of Justice, so I will be doing that as well.
If these people call you HANG UP because you will waste your time and they WILL try to scam you!!!
