The Warranty Group
Buyer Beware!

I purchased a 2003 Mercedes Benz SL 500 from Dudley Martin Chevrolet back in March. The car was beautifully kept both externally and internally. The initial test drive was great. The ride was so smooth, I wanted to keep it that way so when I was offered a service warranty on the car I hesistated at first because I wanted to do some research first to find the best company and deal possible. The saleman told me that I could only purchase their warranty at that moment or lose the opportunity to buy the warranty. Because of my recent history with my last Mercedes only lasting six months before the transmission went completely out, and I'd just purchased a warranty on it less than 30 days prior, I decided I would buy this one at that time. When the paperwork was drawn up and presented to me, I asked some questions about my coveage, length of time, price and about the company. Some of my questions were answered, while others went by the way side. Now keep in mind we are talking about a Mercedes Benz SL 500 which cost over $92,000 in 2003. Labor cost start at $150.00 per hour. I wanted the car covered front to back for the next three years and was told by the salesman that it was. Fastforward six months later, I started having problems with high speed shaking, an oil gasket leak, ball bearing issues, and motor mount problems.in addition, my gear shift panel when out due to an accident where someone hit me from behind and liquid spilled into it, and I was unable to shift it from the Park position. I had it towed to the shop for repairs. After the once over by the service tech, he informed me that he spoke to The Warranty Group about my repairs and they would only cover $3,000.00 of a $10,000.00 bill.$1500.00 of the bill was from the accident and the insurance company paid their portion. I ended up shelling out over $3,500.00 just to get my car from the shop and driveable. I still need more work done. When I called the Warranty Group, they said that if I had their Platinum package everything would have been covered, I said if you sold a MB wouldn't think that you would sell the buyer the most expensive warranty package knowing that the repairs would be expensive. Nevertheless, I was informed that they put a cap on labor charges, but on the contact they said they would cover the charges based on the national market rate. Now I'm mad and just want to end this partnership. I have another vehicle that is covered by them. No repairs to date have been made on this one, so I cancelled both policies. I was looking for a refund from the other vechicle and was told that the refund would be sent back to the dealer. I called the dealer and the said I was getting a refund, (wait for it) for $203.00! I gave the dealership a $300.00 downpayment and monthly payments of $125.00 for seven months. I was told that the warranty was financed by Service Payment Plan Inc. And that any refund was SPP's not mind. I argued that the terms of the contract indicated that a prorated refund would be given if no claims were filed. I was told that the $203 was my refund. I asked about the other money that I paid to them and was told that as long as you have the warranty, then you are using it. (Huh?) I just hung up the phone.in short, buyer beware and heed my error. What seems to good to be true usually is.
