On July 9th I ordered the Trutester "combo-Pack" from www.trutester.com. It cost me slightly over $89. After receiving it, it broke within 150 squeezes and it looked like it was a refurbished (used) unit as it had abrasions and scratches on the outside of the unit. The unit was poorly put together as the sound and the electronics BOTH stopped working with 24 hrs of use. I will say the packaging was well put together and so was the inserts but that does not do much good when the main unit is crap.
I contacted Dustin Mercer about it: (Email below)
"Hi Dusty,
I am unhappy and disillusioned with the digital TruTester you sent me. It has stopped working after about 150 squeezes. I have reset it numerous times to no avail. The sound does not even work now unless you hold the orange grip to one side. And it does not reset to zero or change modes now either.
I have looked at the outside casing and this looks to be a used or refurbished unit. There is wear on it and scratches all over it. Now What?"
He wrote back telling me that I could return it for a replacement. I then emailed him back asking him to please make sure that i was sent a Brand New unit and not one that had been refurbished or used.
This was his reply: "your insults are as crude as they are baseless"
His reply really hacked me off AND it tells me that he KNEW what he sent me was NOT new! A person does not respond like this when a customer wants to make sure what is sent to them the second time around will be a "Working New" model. I dont have pictures of the unit but I can assure everyone it was NOT new.
So, in a nutshell, he took 3 times longer to send me the pittance I received for a refund ($25). His refund policy states that if any of it is opened you get nothing back. (interesting as I thought that ALL 50 states have a 30 day money back refund per state laws on any form of purchases in the continental USA) To top it off he charges a 15% restocking fee even if you do send it back unopened. So basically he has you screwed both ways. The $25 he sent me back (which was a far cry from the $89 I spent) was his "goodwill" offering back to me so he could feel good about screwing me out of the other $60 bucks that he's keeping because of HIS TRUTESTER NOT WORKING AND BEING A PIECE OF REFURBISHED CRAP!
His refund policy states that, "Trutesters returned in used conditioned will not be accepted for refunds." WOW! What about Trutesters that are sent to people that are ALREADY REFURBISHED/USED and BREAK in 24 hours of using them! I guess there is NO provision for that huh?
This was his written response to me: "Despite the fact you are refusing the replacement of your merchandise as well as the terms of the purchase agreement, I am enclosing payment for the value of your returned merchandise."
Gee Dusty, that was mighty nice of you... Do ya think that maybe you might even abide by your own "Purchase Agreement"? Why did you even send me anything back let alone less than 1/3 of my money for YOUR FAULTY USED OR REFURBISHED EQUIPMENT you sent me? I can tell you why... So you feel that you did "something" for me and maybe to make you feel good about you. You could have easily written that check for the full $89. I know, I know... It's not your style...
Bottom line, BUYER BEWARE!!!
