Cellular Sales of New York
Makes employees pay for Financial losses, Illegal deductions from pay

Be very careful when looking for employment with Cellular Sales Verizon Wireless of Upstate NY. This company is very shady in the way they conduct business.
First and foremost, they charge all employees on the floor for any inventory that goes missing in the store. That means if your working with someone who has sticky fingers and decides to go on a robbing spree of accessories and phone equipment, you and anyone else working that day are responsible for the missing equipment. They will also charge you full retail for this and still write it off as a loss so not only are they making the money back from the employees, they also receive the write off.
This company also charges its employees for equipment that is not returned back to the store if a customer deactivates a line a service within 180 days of purchase. An example: If you sale an iPhone 4s for $199.99 on a line of service, your commission pay out is $70. If that customer deactivates the line within 180 days (whether it be because of a delinquent for non payment or no longer wanting service), Not only do you lose the $70 commission, they will also charge you for the iPhone itself if the customer doesn't return the phone. That totals $300. That means your losing $230 on top of the $70 you were paid. They claim to split this lost with you but only up to a certain amount and they write off the lost anyway. That means that you can make a sale of $25 and potential lose $100. This isn't right at all. Employees should not be responsible for an employers equipment or the recovery of it either.
They also are very dishonest and leave their employees in the dark about how things work. Whenever anything is question, they can never answer it directly. Their solution to problems is throwing ways to make money in your face.
They also make a lot of illegal deductions out of your paychecks. Any missing inventory, sales that have been unpaid, are illegally deducted from your paycheck. They don't have any registers in the store so employees have to handle cash in their own pockets and have their own change to give customers. This is very dangerous and highly unprofessional. If employees doesn't drop this money, they will lock you out and you will be forced to come to work for free. They claim they will pay you $10.88 an hour if you are locked out and for mandatory meetings, but if you commissions payout is more that $10.88/hr time your total hours for the month, you will get paid the commissions. This means that the mandatory meetings and your days locked out becomes "FREE LABOR".
They have so many violations according to the department of labor. Employers must display a Minimum Wage information poster where workers can see it, none of their stores have them. They don't give you a time sheet listings all your hours for the month so there is no way of tracking your hours.
If you are a former employee and were considered an "Independent Contractor", the department of labor is currently investigating them for tax evasion. This is because they misclassified you as such. According to the standards set by NY State. (Visit the website http://www.labor. Ny. Gov/ui/dande/ic. Shtm) You can speak with the IRS and NYS Tax Department if you paid taxes for your company and seek reimbursement for any taxes paid from Cellular Sales.
Please don't be deceived. Thehy have a slick way of covering their lies and sneaky ways of recovering money for their loses.
