HP Hewlett Packard
Warranty Scam

I have an HP laptop and purchased an extended 3 yr warranty ($325)-supposedly they were to pick up the computer and return it to me for any service work.

The laptop is a DV9000 about 2 years old. The hard drive failed on the laptop. The HDD was a Seagate momentus 120 GB. A phone call to tech support about 2 months ago resulted in extensive conversations to attempt to revive the computer, no offer to pick up was mad, and the consultation did not succeed in reviving the hard drive, but they sent me recovery disk for a charge of $30 which also failed to revive the hard drive.

I then requested a new HDD. HP stated that they would send one but I only had 15 days to return the defective drive or they would charge $300-$600 (credit card required to get them to ship the new drive). I indicated I needed to recover the data on the drive and 15 days was not enough time. They stated that I should send the drive to a recovery service to recover the data and then request the replacement drive.

Several weeks later I recovered the data at micra data recovery services (excellent job) and requested the replacement drive. HP refused to send me a replacement drive.

First they told me that they would charge my CC $300-$600 if the supposedly bad HDD did not reproduce the error reported.

Then they told me the HDD was out of warrantee because it was opened by a non-HP 3rd party.

I purchased a replacement drive (same brand 2x the size) for $75 at staples.

HP has demonstrated a dishonest warranty process designed to intimidate the customer into abandoning his claim.

BUYER BEWARE - dont buy the warranty

Better yet dont buy HP
