I have a wireless family plan with Verizon, so small fluctuations in my bill are not something I generally check up on. I should have. After noticing a funny premium text message charge for 9.99, I looked back through my bills and... I had accrued $130 in these premium text message charges - some from "Predicto" and some (on one of the other phones in my family plan) from "Nevis alert". I called Verizon, and they gave me the phone number to Predicto. Called Predicto and they claimed I signed up for the service through a website, etc. Nonsense - the number is for my 85 year old mother, who doesn't even use a computer! They tried all the usual excuses - perhaps my phone was out of my control, etc. Don't buy it - they are a classic scam.interestingly, without too much resistance they "claimed" they would send a refund through the mail. I didn't bother to wait for that and called Verizon back indicating that these were scams and the charges were unauthorized. Verizon even got "Predicto" on the line with me and we went through the same routine - Predicto got to the point where they said that somebody from their "Corporate" office would follow up with refund info - anything to get us off the line. To Verizon's credit, they are issuing a complete credit for all $130.00.
Don't put up with this nonsense from these scams. Complain, demand credit from your wireless company. They will get the picture and do better screening of who they are acting as a conduit for. Put a block on your wireless account to premium messaging.
