Had an original signed contract with Directv dated 4/19/08 that my wife signed. I did not sign the original contract although Directv set it up in my name. On 11/6 I called Directv to ask about upgrading to HDTV with DVR service and asked if I would get local HD channels, I was told they could install HDTV with DVR service with local HD channels.
The installer showed up and told me a second line was required for dvr service that would involve drilling a hole through the side of my home with an unproffesional installation. This also was not disclosed when I ordered the upgrade. Since the installer could not install what I ordered he installed a standard hdtv box, not what I ordered.
The installer also rerouted my Time Warner Cable Internet coax lines to make his job easier without consent from Time Warner Cable (my internet provider).
I called Directv to explain the problem and request cancellation within 24 hours. They tried to tell me that by upgrading to HDTV my contract was renewed for an additional 2 years and that I would have a $480.00 cancellation fee that I disagreed with.
I at no time was told that my original contract would be renewed for an additional 2 years and I did not sign anything regarding this. I complained to Directv and was connected to a Directv rep named "liz-employee ID RQ0698", she reviewed my situation and agreed that my contract did not renew-my original contract was in place. I was being nice and agreed to a $220.00 cancelation fee.
On 11/27 I noticed a debit to my checking account for $476.00 by Directv that I was not billed for or authorized by me. The only bill I have received was for a credit balance of $15.52, no final bill was sent. Phone calls to Directv on 11/27 go unresolved, when asked to speak to a reps supervisor named "Robin" she was rude and hung up on me when I asked to be connected to her supervisor. Each time you call you get a different person with a different answer and they refuse to contact you with a supervisor.
I want a full refund of the $476.00 returned to my checking account. Directv is involved in unfair and deceptive trade practices, they claim my contract was renewed when I upgraded without notification. Directv could not install what I ordered, I called to cancel within 24 hours, I want a full refund of the $476.00 they withdrew from my checking account..
In a directv email 11/27 I was told my installer was Mastec and to contact them about a Lease Addendum and to call them at (877) 889 7880, I did and they had no copy or idea why Directv would refer me to them for their own records. Directv has no record of a signed contract renewal. The installer did not leave a copy of the work order. Directv advertised free hd local channels, they did not provide them.
When the installer arrived he told me he could use my existing roof directv satelite mount, he did not and installed an addition dish next to my old on causing un needed damage to my roof without asking me. I still have 3 Directv boxes that I called and asked to be picked up. Directv told me they would send me empty boxes and to call fedex to pick them up, I explained that I wanted a directv representative to pick them up in person and sign for them as stated in their customer agreement-they refused.
I am also concerned about returning equipment to them and having them say they never received it based on past practice of lying to me. I also feel that removing, rerouting existing Time Warner Cable internet coax lines and using the existing Time Warner Cable Splitter to hook up Directv without consent from Time Warner Cable is illegal.
