I purchased a Garmin Etrex Vista HCX. It is advertised as waterproof to IPX7 standards. This standard states submersion at one meter for 30 minutes. My unit will get water into the battery compartment from splashes, orbeing submerged 3 inches for 1 minute. I have had email discussions with several rude reps at garmin, and they ask incredulously " you held it under water? Your warranty will be void. You are not supposed to put the unit near water." Why the heck do they advertise the unit as meeting IPX7 standards if you can't even subject the unit to a splash! Don't buy Garmin GPS!
