I signed up for American Phone Services service on 9/7 to cover long distance phone service to Romania for my wife, so she could talk with her parents in Romania at affordable rates, which were not available with our current phone company. I received an email from them stating that unless they heard from us within 3 days, to notify them of our wish to cancel their service, they would become our toll and international phone services company. This was no other information in the email suggesting we needed to do anything further to receive their published rates to Romania. We never heard another word from APS (American Phone Services) to advise anything different, and in about 1 1/2 weeks, my wife started making calls to Romania, thinking we were getting APS' rates. We were not, and that became crystal clear when our phone company shut off our phone service due to us incurring a very large bill with them. This later was described to us as a lot of calls to Romania.
After working with APS - describing the problem, etc... in repeated phone calls the week of 8/29/08 to 9/3/08, we were advised today (9/3/08) that they wished to offer us $200 credit on their services for our situation, on a $487.08 dollar bill with our carrier. Not only was this only a credit, but a credit on services we were told we couldn't use with them. A big slap in the face, and extremely poor customer service, as if they had ever followed up to tell us the service not only wasn't active, but couldn't be utilized, we never would have been calling Romania.
