About four years ago, we decided it was time to spend big bucks on a quality big screen tv for our movie room while building our new house. Our electronics guy recommended the Samsung DLP 61". At $3,500, we thought we were getting a quality TV. Within the first couple of months, the lamp went out. With the help of our electronics guy, we were able to get the lamp replaced in warranty. As far as that goes, it is easy to do yourself.
This TV is used on average about 100 hours a year so at this time we don't have but about 400 hours on it. Now the color wheel has started whining so loud you can't hear the TV. The repair for the color wheel is $500 from our one and only Samsung Authorized dealer in all of Houston (the fourth largest city in the USA). The TV is crap and the dealer system is crap. Samsung stung me with a cheap, poor quality tv and now they are stinging me again by only offering one authorized dealer to repair it and gouge me on the repair.
I bought a AKAI (cheap) 46" TV to use as an everyday TV at the same time I bought the Samsung. This TV is on all day every day of the week. I would estimate over 14,000 hours of use by now with no issues. The purchase made my electronic guy mad because he felt the AKAI was a poor tv and he didn't want to be associated with it.
The AKAI is blowing the SAMSUNG away and was $2700 less.
It is quite obvious that SAMSUNG doesn't care what the consumer thinks about its stuff because my 61" complaint is just one of many I see on this site.
PS - I have invested in two more Samsung Flat Screen TV's since purchasing the 61". I wonder how long I have before they go out?
