Parking lot scam $1999 Boss Surround Sound System White Van Rip-off

While walking in a grocery store parking lot, my boyfriend and I were stopped by a fast talking young 21-ish blond guy with a sun visor and goatee in a white mini-van (told us it was a rental.) He told us that him and his buddy (brown hair 21-ish goatee) were from Las Vegas and were here in San Diego to install a surrond sound system at some guys's house. He showed us an invoice and said that they were given an extra system by mistake. They had to be leave in 20 minutes, so they were looking for someone cool to give the extra system to because if they showed up with it, their boss "Nick the Dick" would end up with it. They thought they could make someone happy and just wanted a few bucks to go to the Titty Bar.

My boyfreind knows tech and was all about the Boss system. The blond guy opened the minivan door and inside were about 4 of the same boxes - taped and professionally packaged. A guy was sleeping in the back and a beautiful brown haired girl was sitting inside next to the boxes. The blond haired guy began to pull out the parts and show us - even removing the front of a speaker to show the quality.

He said we could have it for $500. He put his finger across the price on the box and said "what if I did this" ($199) - but we're totally broke so by the end he was down to $100. I was telling my boyfriend that we can't afford it and the brown haired guy driving said "Don't listen to her, she's just trying to bring you down."

A lady was getting into her car who stood watching us and kept yelling "Don't do it" I walked over to her and she said her husband was scammed by two guys in a white van selling speakers in a parking lot and that it's all over the internet. As I was with her, I yelled to my boyfriend a final no and the guys drove away.

As we were walking into the grocery store, they pulled up one final time and asked again if we wanted it, but seemed more concerened about what that lady said to me. Then the lady drove by with her husband and yelled - "we got scammed the same way - don't do it!"

Thanks to that lady - we didn't lose on this shady scam like so many others did. I immediately checked online, found these postings and saw the similarities to other's stories. Hope my details can help someone else. Lesson learned - if it's too good to be true...
