I called the company named under Broadway Photo.com to order SLR camera, EOS series (Canon EOS-5D (Body Only), 12.8 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera and Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF USM Autofocus Lens). On broadwayphoto.com, clearly stating that EOS series (Canon EOS-5D (Body Only), 12.8 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera, costs $1,643.00 and the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF USM Autofocus Lens costs $1,123.00, all in total before taxes costs $2,766.00. When I was talking to representative during the purchase I asked to confirm the prices for the product that I saw on the website. However, they never told me that the Canon body that is indicated is made out of Plastic Composite, and the lens comes with plastic mount, so I asked myself, that is strange, I thanked the representatives and told him that I will call back.
At the same time I made a call to Canon Company to confirm that if they even make plastic body for 5D and plastic mount for their lenses, Canon confirmed that their entire Canon 5D are made out of Magnesium Alloy and the lens comes with Metal Mount. The only plastic composite body comes for Canon Rebels series. So therefore I called back to Broadway Photo and asked them how much the body of Canon 5D with Magnesium Alloy is going to cost and the lens with metal mount is going to costs me as well, the whole total came to $3,300.00. So I decided to purchase these two products and gave the Broadway Photo all of my personal information along with credit card number.
When representative came back to the phone, after checking if my credit card is valid, he approach with the offer to buy a warranty for this Canon body, either for three or five years, I refused, due to the previous experience with warranty companies. So I assuming representative got a little upset with me, and he started acting a little bluntly and rougher tone of voice.
We played this ongoing game so-called ping-pong, he offers I refuse, he makes the picture colorful to make a sale and I am colored blind to it. Towards the end I told him NO, I assume that he could take it anymore and he clearly stated to me that it VERY STUPID OF ME OF NOT BUYING THE WARRANTY AND HE FEELS SORRY FOR ME AND MY IGNORANCE. Of course I was speechless when I heard it, and I could not comprehend the fact that gentlemen, a representative from Broadway Photo.com, insulted me like that. So I answered him that to not feel sorry for he and then me finally accepted and we hung up on each other.
My point is that Broadway Photo company selling on the website a Canon product that is after market production and claiming that is the Canon product. Because Canon clearly told me that this particular model, Canon 5D does not comes with Plastic Composite body, it comes only Magnesium Alloy body, and the same story with the lens, Canon company told me that all of their lenses are metal mount, no plastic mount.
However, on the website, under specification tab, on Canon 5D product clearly written that this particular model, Canon 5D, Weight - 1.79 lb., and the Canon website indicates that the weight is 28.6 oz./810g (Body only. Battery: 2.9 oz./82g), which exact the same weight but in different weight category. Also, under description tab its clearly stating: "The Canon EOS 5D offers advanced photographers a lightweight, robust digital SLR that uses Canon's superlative EF lenses without a conversion factor. Its full-frame 12.8 Megapixel CMOS sensor combines with Canon's DIGIC II Image Processor, a high-precision 9-point AF system with 6 assist points, and "Picture Style" color control to deliver images of superior quality with enough resolution for any application. With its wide-angle capabilities, 2.5 inch LCD and magnesium-alloy body, the Canon EOS 5D is designed to serve the needs and interests of serious enthusiasts as well as professionals". It is not magnesium-alloy body. On Broadway Photo.com does not stating anything about the plastic composite body and it does not says that the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF USM Autofocus Lens comes with plastic mount as well.
This is deceptive way of attracting or earning money from customers, false advertisement and extremely poor customer service. I canceled my credit cards right away. They called me back four days later and asked for credit card number, and I told them to cancel my order.
