In December I noticed for the first time that I was being billed $26.53 plus state tax of $1.86 by the Ridley Telephone Company for what I learned was a Talkmore USA telephone service. When I contacted the company I was told it was authorized by one of my sons who has not lived at home for more than 15 years and not authorized to do this. I told the person I talked to to cancel this plan immediately. I also contacted the State of New Hampshire Department of Justice Consumer Protection and Antitrust Bureau. I contacted Verizon Telephone Company and asked for copies of my telephone bills for the past five years. I learned to my amazement that I had been billed for this service for 4 1/2 years. It was my stupidity not to check the bills sooner. The January telephone bill contained a credit of $53.06 from Ridley. I contacted the company again and informed them that I had filed a formal complaint about these unauthorized charges with the state's Department of Justice. I was notified two days later that I had been issued another credit of $265.09. A spokesman for the Department of Justice informed me that they were looking into my complaint. Today I received a letter from Department of Justice that they had received a response from the Ridley Telephone Company stating my complaint had been resolved. Ridley did this by issuing me a final credit of $1,102.83. The total amount of credit is $1,420.98. This is the amount they have billed me for the past 4 1/2 years. I am glad I took the time to look at my December bill and also glad that I took the time to obtain all those years of telephone bills. Contacting the state's Department of Justice was worthwhile. If anyone else has this problem take the time to look into it. It paid off from me.
