Won't honor camera warranty 4 months into a 1 year warranty

In June I bought a Canon Digital Camera (Power Shot sd1000). It has worked fine until suddenly, at my fathers 80th birthday party, the lens would not move in or out. It was just stuck halfway. I called tech support and was told to mail it in for warranty service.

I mailed it in, and got an email a few days later asking me to pay $103 for the repair, tax and shipping. It also said that once they OPEN the camera, there may be damage not covered by warranty and it could cost more. So I called Canon customer service to ask if this was a mistake. I was told that the lens issue IS covered under warranty and won't be charged for that BUT the camera has some exterior scuffs as well as a small, pin head sized dent and it is their policy to put the camera back in 'factory fresh condition' and that is not covered under warranty. Fair enough that that is not covered but the insisted if I didn't have them do that and pay for it, they will not honor the warranty on the actual part that IS broken.

I feel that this is a complete rip off and is not the way I've ever experienced warranty issues before. If an internal mechanism is broken and covered under repair, they should demand over $100 to repair the aesthetics of the exterior in order for them to honor the warranty.

I will never buy another Canon product.
