Complaint / Review
Digitalcorp
B & Y Distributors, Rip-off merchants in the US / New York

I recently purchased a Canon 40D camera package from 'Digitalcorp' on ebay:

Canon 40D Body
Canon EFS 18-55mm
Canon EF 28-105mm
Canon 75-300mm III
High Resolution Wide Angle Lens
Pro Filter Kits
2 GB Compact Flash Cards
Compact Flash Card Reader
Reinforced Hard Aluminium Case
Digital Camera Soft Case
3 Peice Cleaning Kit
52" Vid Pro TT-250 Tripod

The package seemed a good deal, even having read the small print about the $129 postage and 3% handling fee. Total purchase price $1863 (incl. Delivery).

I rang to confirm the order and was spoken to by Joe (Joseph). He told me the lenses were not made for the digital camera and I should upgrade to ones that are specifically made for the digital camera. I would instead receive a Tamron AF70-300 LD Macro 1:2 lens.in addition I would receive an extra-long life battery plus some additional 4GB memory card. Not being particularly knowledgeable at the time I took the offer - basically put my faith in them, supposing to be the experts.

Now listen carefully, because this is the real bull5h1t part. He claimed he can upgrade the delivery for free and ship by Air freight - great! At this point he went on about how Fedex will charge a 'Brokerage Fee' which I will have to pay when I receive the goods, but because I was purchasing these 'upgrades' this fee would not apply. This 'Brokerage Fee' was to be in addition to any Import/VAT tax that I would have to pay. So, because I heard FREE upgrade I went along with it. He then said this would be an extra $1071 to get all this and thinking that I was to get this amazing lens upgrade, paid this over the phone.

I had to email them to get a receipt confirmation of what I had ordered and upon receiving this did the research into to TRUE value of the upgrades. The Tamron lens was worth exactly the same as the 2 lenses I had swapped it for and the other bits n' pieces amounted to perhaps $150 at very most. So, I then rang them to question this and they said the main cost was the Fedex 'Brokerage Fee'. So, I rang Fedex and guess what - no brokerage fee exists for a 2-day Air freight delivery to the UK (under 10kg) in weight! Hence why I am writing this report.

Basically I had paid $1071 and they had sent me $150 worth of inferior stuff. I read another report on this site about almost identical experience to mine and they mentioned about the fact about Digitalcorps initial claim of selling 'non-digital' lenses with this package, so I suggest you look for this report, as I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on this, but am sure they are correct. Anyway, why sell 'non-digital' lenses with a digital camera unless you are out to scam someone?

So, I hope if you are reading this you too have not also been scammed, but if you have, please write a report to this site as all those who already have will receive notification of it.
