I signed up for a Dish Network dish and receivers. I paid an extra $40 to have them not run a credit report on me. I had a few bad years and my credit was questionable. The separate $40 check, which I gave the installer, was cashed and I have a microfiched copy in hand (thats all my bank gives). Never thought another thing about it.
About 6 months later, I was looking into refinancing our home. I got a copy of my credit report. It showed that Dish Network ran a credit report on me anyways.
I called the company who did the install, AEI entertainment of Green Bay, WI. They confirmed by the paperwork in my file that I paid the money to not have a credit report ran. I was then told to contact Dish, as they were just a subcontractor. I called Dish, who told me to contact AEI. AEI is the company I called to sign up with, as my neighbor had used them and received a referral incentive ($50) for anyone he could get to sign up. I only dealt with AEI. They refused to do anything for me. Lesson learned.
