This ripoff involves two companies— Defender Pro US which sells its software at Frys. I have had more trouble with Fry's re rebates than with any other store. I sent its President, Randy Fry, three letters requesting his help and received no reply. I sent 3 letters to Defender Pro and no reply.
Defender Pro sells a software which is supposed to protect against viruses, etc. And make one's PC operate more efficiently. It not only didn't work for me but caused my PC to crash. I had to spend $100 to resurrect my PC.
My purchase involved $35 in rebates. The rebate forms were the most difficult I have ever experienced and because of this I was extremely careful to follow all the requirements. To me it seemed obvious that they were trying to cause an error so they would not have to pay the rebate. As you are aware this is a common practice among phony rebaters.in my case, they didn't disqualify me but both Fry's Electronics and Defender Pro completely ignored my rebate submission as well as my subsequent complaints.
$35 is not a lot of money but is a matter of principle with me. If Fry's and Defender Pro software can cheat thousands of people like me with phony rebates it can add to their profits, It is little wonder that rebates have gained a bad name with companies like these two ripping people off.
