To whom it may concern:
The intent of this letter is to draw attention to a website that I believe is defrauding hundreds of citizens throughout the United Kingdom. The website name is PSPUniverse.co.uk, they also trade under the names MyDV, Nepine, Gardenready and Oztool, the parent company is NEPCO. The website is run out the state of Massachusetts in the United States. Consumers have of suggested that the company is guilty of the following:
1. Parading as a UK-based company
2. Over-charging customer credit cards
3. Inadequate customer service
4. Failure to refund funds
5. Failing to deliver goods within a promised date
6. Delivering Non-UK-spec electronics and therefore: warranty is void, instructions are often in foreign languages, video equipment is NTSC format and unusable, additional power adaptors must be purchased, etc.
7. Potentially avoiding Value Added Tax (VAT) by marking all shipments with a value of $100 American dollars.
This company was investigated by the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office for some of these violations The website was temporarily shut down, but later re-opened under an unspecified agreement with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.
I am writing you this letter as a member a victim registry. The orginization is a volunteer-based anti-fraud website which specialises in organizing victims of fraud. Over 300 MYDV and PSP customers have stepped forward to join this registry. It is my sincere hope that through a combined effort, we can publicise our story. We intend to protect other consumers from the troubles we have already been through. Below is my personal story.
My Story
On the 31st of December I placed an order for a Sony PSP for my son, with a company called PSP Universe who advertised themselves as being in the UK (Aberdeenshire). I have bought many items over the internet in the past and never experienced any problems.
I used my Debit Card for the amount of 179.95. I printed a copy of the invoice. As it was over the holiday period I was not overly concerned at not having received a confirmation email from the company stating a despatch or delivery date. After returning to work I went to the Website of PSP Universe and tried to track the order but no further details came up. I then emailed them for information and did not have a reply.
I became concerned and checked with my bank and found the money had been taken from my account on 4th January. I tried contacting the company by phone using a number which was on the invoice. However I was unable to get any response. On checking the website again I found that it had been suspended. I then started to search the internet for information and found various forums and websites where other people were having similar problems with this company and its subsidiaries. They have either not received the goods ordered at all or received incorrect items or part of the order after many weeks. Those that have received something find that it is not UK compatible.
I discovered that the Attorney General of the State of Massachusetts has commenced proceeding against the parent company NEBCO and all of its subsidiaries.
My bank said that as I had used a Debit card that I was not insured as a Credit card would be. I was also told that the company could continue taking money from my Debit card as I had willingly given the number over to them. I have since cancelled my account and opened a new one. I have also instructed the bank to attempt a recall of the funds. The Bank cannot do this however, until one month after the money had been taken.
My son had given me his Christmas money to buy a PSP for him and he is so disappointed. I am going to have to buy him one from a shop and hope that we are able to get our money refunded from PSP Universe.
