I purchased a flat screen monitor from gateway with a 1 yr warranty. After about 6 months the monitor just went completely black. After talking with gateway support they determined it was a bad monitor and eligible for replacement under the one yr warranty telling it would take about 14 days for the new monitor to arrive. After 3 weeks I called and was told they didn't have any of my monitor in stock so it would be another two weeks or so.
After another 3 weeks (a month and 1/2 now) I called back again to be told the same thing. The refused to send me a monitor that was 1 inch bigger or to send me a new monitor insisiting I wait until a refurbished monitor was ready for me. Finally over two months after gateway staff decided the monitor was bad I received a refurbished monitor.
Tired of dealing with the rude, ignorant acting, customer service staff I was ready to put the ordeal behind me and just let it be. Of course the refurbished monior proceeded to start acting funny within a month after the time they shipped it.By 6 months this monitor again was nothing but a black screen.
When I contacted gateway about the problem I was told "The refurbished monitor lasted long enough that the year warranty is no longer in place" the company had no regard for the fact that when you factor in the time I was monitorless TWO of their top of the line monitors failed to last a full year. I'm not stuck with a refurbished pos that doesn't work at all. The technical support people at the company won't even help as they just tell me the monitor is bad and there's nothing that can be done.
DO NOT BUY FROM GATEWAY, not only are their products horrible, but apparently bad service is the expected and the norm. Don't let the warranty fool you either, I've never seen a company so cheap with so little regard for proving their product's worth.
