My report is to simply add that apparently Discount Cellular is still up to the same tricks reported at length by Cherry. The contract I received and agreed to told me that I had one free phone and the only cancellation charge mentioned was a penalty (I believe it was a little under $200) if I cancelled before the end of two years.
I assumed that that was because of the free phone. Nothing else was mentioned then or at any other time. When I sent them a notice of cancellation of service, well over four years after purchase, although I don't remember the exact date that I received the phone nor did I after all this time keep the invoice sent with the phone, I was informed that they had rolled over the service and there would be a cancellation fee—they did not say how much. I e-mailed back and informed them that was not in the contract and thus improper. I did not get a response to that message but they have continued to bill me.
