I spent several weeks working for Westward Innovations. Owner / manager Ryan Knauss is a salesman, and after my first few weeks I began to see how good he really was. Low-handed tactics commmon in our office were used to make sales. Often employees (like myself) did not know they were lying to customers. For instance, I was told to quote the Federal Access Charge (a common charge - not a tax) as $2.20 per line. After seeing a few bills with a higher FAC it became obvious that I was misquoting. It was $6.00 per line. Another common practice was that we are to tell customers that we work directly for AT&T could this be misrepresentation? Another issue, fairly new to the office, was that on July 31, our promotion and rate card expired.
We were not given new rate cards, but were told that this promotion was extended through September. We were advised to use the same expired rate card with a $50 gift card promotion. Did these customers receive the $50 card? I am yet to find out for myself but I have been told second hand new customers are not receiving them. Shall I go on? Because I could. I continued to work there, as did some others in the office, trying to do my job legitimately and not using the shady tactics common to the office (known or unknown by the employees themselves). This made my sales drop and my conscience was very bothered. Overall there were a few positives - what I did get out of this company was some good friends, good money, and a lot of experience in sales and marketing.
