Alas, I was another sucker. When I placed an order three months ago from Improvements Catalog, the very nice saleslady pushed me to sign up for a trial period of Simple Escapes, telling me I could cancel after the papers came and not be charged anything. I told her I didn't want it, but she pushed it so enthusiastically I finally agreed. I wrote the cancellation number on my calendar, fully intending to cancel as soon as the papers came.
Well, the papers never came and I forgot about it until a $96 charge appeared on my charge card bill. I immediately called the Simple Escapes people and told them I wanted a refund NOW. They offered me a $60 coupon, which I refused, again insisting on my refund, which they finally agreed they would give me in two days. I told the man I would be checking up on this. As it happens they have given me a partial credit. I called tonight to ask where the rest of my money was and was told the call center was having technical difficulties and I would have to call again tomorrow.
After reading of the experiences of others, I will surprised if I am given the remaining credit tomorrow, but I have no intention of paying these crooks a penny and will also be talking to the bank about changing to a new charge card account. I am sorry I ever listened to the people at Improvements. I will never do so again. I have also notified them about this crooked operation, and supposedly a note is being given to a supervisor.
