I attended ITT technical institute in the Thornton, Co area from jun to jun. About my third term they switched to NIIT books. These books suck. They are written in very bad enlish. The very first things in the books say that they are not responsible for the material in the books. I attended for my associates degree in computer electronic engineering. The stuff that I would be working with should be pretty acurrate because if its not it could get someone hurt or even killed.
In our digital book there was 54 errors in the first four chapters. The errors were in the circuits that we had to build. I had the highest grade and the best idea of what was going on in my class and I built one of the circuits exactly like the book told me and some of my components went up in smoke. The next person who build the circuit also went up in smoke. After the two of use burt our equipment the teacher looked at the ciruit to make sure that we had build it right and then told the class to stop building the circuit because the book was screwed up. Our teacher then looked through the book a head of time and was able to point out the errors before hand.
Most of the teachers are very good in the field and at teaching. One teacher was very knowledgeable but could not teach. She was good if you knew the right questions to ask or the right way of asking them. But if you asked a question most of the time she would just repeat what she said before, but if I understood it before I would not be asking the question.
I also feel the I was not challenged at all. Most of the classes I did not even open the books once. I had a 3.97 GPA but all you have to do to get that is show up. The week before a test a couple of the teachers would would read the tests word for word and give you all the answers. One of the students in my graduating class hardly ever showed up and He really did not understand the material but because ITT emphasis group projects this guy was carried through the courses by his group even though he did not do much work for the group. He could not build a circuit and trouble shoot it at all when we graduated. He did not even know ohm's law if you asked him which is the very basic stuff you need to know for this field.
Most of the teachers seemed that they were just there to get a paycheck not to teach others the material. I feel that I paid $30,000 for a piece of paper but no education. One of the guys in my class said that he was afraid to apply for a job in our field because most employers require a test and he was afraid that he would not be able to pass that test. The dean asked my class on our last day who would be going for the bachelors degree. We have 12 people in the class and not one of us said that we would be back.in fact everyone in my class is greatly disapointed in the education that we got from ITT.
