In January, I received a call from a travel agency claiming that they had received my bank information through a check scanner at the grocery store. I usually don't give telemarketers the time of day, but this one held my interest with the way that they had received my checking account information. Plus, the salesperson gave me a legitmate e-mail address that I researched the travel agency on.
The travel agency offered me a wonderful vacation package, and told me that I could get the whole package for free. All that I had to do was call the company back after they had sent me information about their business and tell them to cancel the membership that they were offering with the package.
The membership information never came in the mail. The number that I needed to cancel the membership never came in, and of course my wonderful free vacation package was never sent to me. The money came out of my checking account though!
I have filed a police report in to the St. Petersberg Police Department for fraud. I am not the only one to do so according to the police, several others have done the same for the same company. I suggest that those who have the same problem as me, also file a report. I have also reported the information to my bank account and changed my checking account #. My bank is in the process of trying to refund me the money that was taken by the scam.
