Not so Innocent door to Door Schemers

In October I opened my front door to 2 young gentleman claiming to be from the local high school. The pitched a story saying they are raising money for housing to go study abroad because the previous year's group got hurt. As sucker, I sypathezied with the story and wanted to support my local community.

I never like solicitation at my house. I rarely open the door but for some reason that afternoon I did and I decided to make the purchase. I was hesistant to buy saying I already have magazine subscriptions and they came back telling me about which magazines their moms like and which recipes were a family favorite. It all seemed geninue. They said the subscription would be for 2 years and about $1.75 an issue. So they asked for a check of $45 and not really doing the calculation of cost I figured about $2 for 24 issues $45 sounded right. The deal was done but I felt a gut instinct something was wrong.

I felt scammed after closing the door. I looked at the receipt and it was written up as only a one year subscription and said it would take about 120 days to process. Then it also dawned on me that it was around 11:30am on a weekday. Don't these seniors have school today? So I called the local high school, they claimed the were from, and asked if any seniors are selling magazines to go to Spain. The secretary said yes their might be a group doing something of that nature but it is not school related. I rested easily alittle bit. The check was cashed within the week and I waited. I also checked on the price of the magazine I ordered, Family Fun, and it normally is only $10 a year so I breathed and told myself oh its for charity, the extra $30, it's going to be ok. I felted cheated but I didn't want to live doubting the world of dishonesty.

I waited till this month February and decided search the company on the receipt. Then like a car crash... Bam... I saw the title "scam" pop up from this website. I read another person story from another state so I had to share my story so these disgustingly evil villians scammers will not get you. What scared me even more after reading the other post was I too trusted these people and left the door open to go get my checkbook in other room. I can't imagine what they could have done and my toddler was with me too. It makes me so mad and sad that these 2 gentleman have ruined my trust of the world.

Lesson learned: If I ever want to donate to charity or help an organization financially I will contact the organization directly.
