Morningstar Academy
Unkind, unfair, unfortunate experience for us

We have had a horrible experience with Morning Star Academy! Often their cd, websites, etc. Did not correlate to the lessons. Many times there were test questions that included material not ever covered in the lessons leading up to the test. Server down often, you'd get kicked off the site in the middle of work, teachers offline for very long periods and even days at a time, the only email I received from them ALL YEAR was a receipt for my payment at the beginning of the year and a notice of a one day suspension of my son the last week of school. I was accused of lying about not receiving any emails from them the entire year. They claim they sent them, but I never received them. When I questioned why they hadn't contacted me when my sons work was beginning to go down the drain, the response was, "that's not our responsibility, it is up to the student to contact the teacher if they feel they are not doing well." My, my, that shows a lot of care and concern on their part. This is not college folks! The child is not the sole one responsible; parents need to be informed. My messages were never answered, teachers don't respond to their emails, we were not permitted to use lesson resets as we wished even for non-multiple choice work (stated in their policy), customer support wouldn't do what they said they would, it took days to get a simple answer as to why resets weren't happening, the Bible instructor was especially rude imagine that! - very strict, policy only, a no grace kind of Bible thumper I guess! Log time does not compute correctly... I logged in for 45 min. Once and it only computed 13. My son was suspended for a day (I understand policy and don't deny that he should have been suspended), but one day turned into two full days and after a heated conversation on both sides (yes, I was hot under the collar!) they absolutely refused to return the extra day they took from him. They took him offline at 9pm (midnight their time) on a Thursday and restored him at 9pm (midnight their time) on Saturday and called that 24 hours because it contained two back to back dates on the calendar! Also, when I asked for the exact time he was removed and restored, the information was "not available to them, " even though they had the dates right in front of them. The 'system' graded some test answers wrong because of misspellings or a different tense of the word was used. When my son would "raise his hand and ask for help" the response was always "read the material again, " no actual help, so he stopped raising his hand. Extra credit appeared then suddenly disappeared and they supposedly were working to get it back online, a statement actually written on the course page. After a week of phone calls trying to get this sorted out, the response was "time has expired for turning in extra credit." So in essence, some students would have been able to complete extra credit while others could not because they refused to restore it to the system. I don't think that's very fair! And I could go on and on.

My son got good grades until he went here! There was no grace or kindness offered to our situations... interesting considering the "christian" aspect of this school. BBB has several complaints against them, but the schools do not respond. I guess that's one way to get away with unethical practices...! There are tons of complaints of them all over the internet. To anyone reading this... Do not send your child to this school, you will regret it!!
