Insight school of California
Inconsistent, rude

My child was enrolled in Insight CA and the problems started when I sent his enrollment papers in. He was first denied enrollment when someone in the admin office said I could not enroll him because my last name didnt match that which was listed on his birth certificate. I had to talk to 3 people to get someone to actually look at the certificate and see that it lists "Mothers Maiden Name".

We had no choice but to use this school because of my childs physical limitations, but most of the teachers and staff automatically treat a child who is behind as one who is "just laying there playing video games all day" (I was actually told by a teacher that if he was behind because of this it wasnt their problem).

Now I will admit 3 teachers this year have been great, but hes had 15! At one point there was nothing graded for over a month in one class, no class connects, not instruction and no responses to my childs email questions. It took me nearly 3 weeks to get someone to admit that the teacher had left and hadnt been replaced.By this time he was so far behind with no instruction he failed the class. This happened to be spanish, a class in which my mother in law (whos native language is spanish) couldnt figure out what the coursework was trying to teach them.

Anothr teacher let things build up without grading them for nearly two months but actually responded to the students. When I questioned this because the semester was coming to a close I was told that it was MY responsibility responsibility to make sure the assignments were graded and posted to his online account correctly. Um... I honestly thought it was the teachers responsibility and only getting the administrator involved confirmed that yes, once the assignment is submitted the teacher takes full responsibility. Try getting that across and you are labeled a 'bully".

Another teacher wouldnt let the child move on to the next assignment until they received a B on the one submitted. When I asked if they were more interested in being able to toot their own horn hit higher grades in their class I was again called a bully.

Emailing them does no good because even though you see that they opened your message they will say they never got it and thats why they didnt respond.

The school is a great concept, especially for those with limitations, but you as the parent have to be extremely diligent. Every teacher is different, which I understand, but the inconsistencies are off the chart. If you talk to three people you will get five different answers. If this is your choice keep track of everything, be an advocate for your child and make sure they receive the treatment they should.

I have contacted the school board in my area and thankfully they have had enough complaints about this program being used by children as a last resort that they are now expanding their "home health program". My child is returning to the public school. I've already spoken with the administration about his condition and they are welcoming him with open arms.

This system can work if you, the adult in charge of their education, have the time to make this a full time plus job. If an assignemnt hasnt been graded within 24 hours question it, if assignments ar graded but their actual grade doesnt change, question it, if the teacher doesnt respond to questions question it.
