Please be very careful when enrolling at this school or ANY vocational school. It is extremely important that you know exactly what you are signing when putting your signature on ANY contract/Enrollment Agreement. I took the risk of enrolling at the Empire Beauty School in Hanover Park, IL.
To much dissapointment and frustration I found the Cosmetology Program to not be structured or up to proper standards in ANY way. What you don't relaize is in IL you only have 5 business days after signing your name to the Enrollment Agreement to cancel it null and void. You CANNOT cancel free and clear after those 5 days or after attending even just 1 day of class.
I signed up for their part time night Cosmetology Program and to my shock and surprise it was a very unstructed illogical format. After 2 days of attendance I asked to be dropped from the program so that I could pursue my training elsewhere. Not only is this school asking my to pay 10% of the tuition ($1700.00) but they also will not take their $1250.00 student kit.
All but a handful of tools were used in my 2 days and they have told me I can't return the rest because the kit must be complete. No where in their contract does it say it has to be a complete kit to return, it just says you must return within 20 calendar days of receipt of the kit and the items must be unused and in their original condition. I am currently disputing their charges and seeking legal counsel. I signed my name to their contract in good faith.
What I got in return was unacceptable and truly a RIP-OFF. Please ask LOTS of questions before enrolling in a Cosmetolgy Program. This school uses a rotation schedule to make more money by being able to bring students in every 6 weeks. They DO NOT tell you that your program does not start at a Indroduction/Beginning Course. What ever rotation they have coming up next in the program when you enroll is where you start.
In a nutshell you start out of order. Some students I spoke with came in their first day in the Perm/Relaxer rotation, others Hair cutting, etc. I came in to the Hairstyling Section, was given little to no direction the 2 days I attended and by day 2 was asked to attepmt an intermediate Hair Design with no explanation, just told to look at my textbook and re-create.
So far the school has done nothing to accomodate me for the lack of proper training at their school. Just sent me a bill. Again, please be VERY careful and read the ENTIRE contract. If any part of their policies make you uncomfortable think twice about binding yourself to it. I have waited 10 years to go back to school and it is so sad that my first experience out the gate may force me to pay over $3000.00 for two days of NOTHING but the learning experience that they are not a quality program.
