I work in the Purchasing department of a medical facility in MN. Several times (often about once a week) someone from Purity called claiming our regular shipment was to be delayed and asked for approval to send a substitute. I never gave such approval and always transferred the call to the correct buyer. The buyer eventually told me that these people are scam artists and not to take calls from them.
I started simply saying, "I'm sorry. I don't show any record of your being a vendor of ours. Do you do business by another name?" The caller always hung up.
Apparently they got the name of someone in another department and sent some syringes, claiming she had ordered them. I investigated and discovered that this employee was not even working on the day she supposedly placed the order. I confronted a rep by the name of "France" and demanded a Return Authorization.
They claimed they had a tape of the sale, but then I pointed out that we have evidence that they cannot possibly have made the sale to the employy that they said they did and that our company policy states that no orders can be paid for without a Purchase Order Number to verify that it was placed by an authorized buyer. I also pointed out that it is a Federal crime to alter or forge a tape recording of a telephone conversation.
They sent the return authorization and I haven't heard from them since.
