I took out a student loan 20 years ago, i was on paroll and was revoked back to prison, i am now trying to get back into school and have somehow incurred over 3 thousand dollars in intrest debt, i have contacted them about this and they tell me they bought the loan from the federal govenment for collection. Can there be no way to get the intrest at least wiped out? I am trying to get back to college now so that i can make somthing of what is left of my life.
I am currently in the miami rescue mission a faith based program, i have been here 1 year in may i remain sober and clean for the very first time in my life and am trying to move forward. When i called them i told them i get 20 dollars a month gratuity pay that it i can send them 10 a month they replied no we want 100 a month or the loan stays in default status, is there anything i can do? Oh they want 100 dollars a month for 6 months then they will bring me out of default status. That does not help me and they dont care, i explained that i am unable to work while in the 18 minth program, if i cant get started here i probably wont be able to get started at all.
I realize that this is not their fault, however couldnt they be a little more willing to help, at least refinance old loan with a new so i can go to school get a degree so i can pay them back? I am currently trying to get enrolled in miami dade college for a 2 year assosiates degree in paralegal. Any help or info that you can give me would be helpfull
