As a former IT manager, I am very skeptical of placement firms / career counselors I will only use head-hunters that I have done business with in the past. But, as with most sectors right now, opportunities are not as they were back in the mid 90s.
I almost fell for the BHA line got an e-mail from a V.P. There saying how impressive my resume was, and I needed to see him immediately. Well, I didnt recall sending this place anything, (when looking for a job, its important to keep a journal so you know who you have resumes with for follow-ups). At any rate, I needed to get a URL for the company, so typed the name in GOOGLE and voila! I thought it was strange that complaints about the company came up before the companys home page. Well, I started to check out consumer complaintss and saw the all too familiar gave them my money and immediately thought I need to see what this is all about.
After reading through many reports, I checked BHAs web-site, and thought to myself, WOW this is really shady. See, most like my-self that have been laid-off, may have been offered career transition counseling, and it can be very helpful if you are re-entering the search process after many years. But the differences are that they will not make any guarantees about getting you a new job, and it is up to you to make contacts and the necessary follow-ups. Another huge difference is that any reputable career counselors are generally affiliated with a large recruiting firm.
Well, all I can say is that this website provides a great service to all, and I certainly appreciated the insight prior to following up with BHA Thats another funny story; If you really want to F with them, tell them that you used to be a lawyer
Cheers!
