Fingerhut/Axsys National Bank Is hounding me for payment for defective merchandise and refuses to answer letter St. Cloud, MN St. Cloud Minnesota...
In the summer of 2000 I placed an order with Fingerhut for two blankets and a boombox. This simple transaction has become and unending nightmare! One of the two blankets disintegrated into a slimy, weblike mess in my washing machine (damaging the agitator, which I had to have repaired at a cost of $57, and which could have caused the entire engine to burn out had I not been right there). The main control knob on the boombox required "jiggling" to get it to work within three weeks after I received it, and a month later the cassette player began to function with very poor sound quality. Over the next six months I sent sent letter after letter to Fingerhut explaining the situation and never received an answer of any kind.
Despite all this, I kept paying the balance on my account. Finally after six months of no response from the company I stopped remitting payment, because I was apalled by the spiraling interest being charged me for merchandise that was not only defective but actually cost me repair money. I hoped this would get their attention. It lead to a series of phone calls from Fingerhut demanding payment. Again and again and again I explained the situation. I called customer service several times and was promised forms I could submit to rectify the problem.
I never received them (and I had this same conversation and promise of forms four times.) Then I began to receive calls from Axsys National Bank demanding payment, each increasingly threatening. Now I am receiving calls from an ER Solutions company almost daily. No matter how many times I explain the stituation to these people they just keep calling and demanding money. Meantime, I have now written over a dozen letters to Fingerhut and never gotten a single response. They seem to be like the super in the movie "The Super, " who keeps demanding payment despite the fact that the building is falling apart. I am at wit's end here. I honestly don't know what to do anymore.
