Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS)
The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is devoted to promoting higher education and making sure that learning institutes meet the highest standards. Their mission is to provide people with a list of schools and educational institutes that meet their standards. Since their founding in the early 1900's, the ACICS has strived to maintain the highest standards in education. They focus on post-secondary educational institutes with a focus on business related fields.

Although the ACICS is recognized by the United States Department of Education, it is not an organization that has a direct affiliation with the government. It is a national agency that provides accreditation to the best higher education institutes. These include colleges, organizations, and other institutes. Their scope is not limited to the United States. They also accredit institutes overseas. Their stated mission is to promote educational excellence, and by reviewing these educational institutes and organizations, they are searching for the best that are out there.

Their main headquarters is currently located in Washington DC. According to the 2005 Annual Institutes Report, the ACICS was responsible for accrediting approximately 675 institutes that had an aggregate enrollment of approximately 550,000. They have been around since 1912, which means that they have been devoted to this mission of accrediting the finest schools for quite some time. The United States Secretary of Education first recognized the ACICS in 1956. With their long history of dedication to excellence, an accreditation from ACICS really says a lot about the educational institute
