I enrolled with Kaplan in Feb or 2008. I heard about the school from a friend and got online to check it out. While I was looking I clicked on the speak to a live advisor link. Mistake number one. I talked to Holley for a few minutes and she told me everything I wanted to hear. Before I even made my decision my enrollment application was done. When I spoke with the financial aid department they told me the only way for me to get loans was if my parents took out a parent plus loan. I told them my parents werent paying for my education and after going back and fourth for awhile they informed me there was one other option. They told me then that I could have my mom write a letter stating that she refused to even apply for a loan. They told me it must be signed by her and has to be to them in two days. I had her write the letter that day and to make sure it got there I faxed it. Because I had so many problems and my admission advisor knew she had me fax it to her also. After I faxed the letter my FA advisor she still felt the need to contact my mom. She called my mom and my mom informed her she would not be taking out a loan or even applying for one. They finally let me take out my own loans but they set them up through Bank of America and Citi Bank. Problem with that was with Citi Bank I had an interest rate that was through the roof. Even though my loans were done when I tried to log on for the first class I had been blocked. It took a couple days but they fixed the problem. I attended class and really liked the way everything was set up. Now during my second semester I started getting letters and emails saying I have an overdue balance. They also sent me a letter saying I owe them $1100 because my FA didnt cover everything. When I called the FA dept they informed me that my loans were not certified meaning they hadnt received any money. My FA advisor claimed she never got the fax and that she never called my mom. She told me that the only way for me to do it was a parent plus loan. I talked to her and she was very rude to me. I called and asked for a new FA advisor they wouldnt change it. I asked for another number for a supervisor she gave me a different number but her extension so it went right back to her. I decided the only way to fix this was to withdraw from my classes. I called and set up an appt with my academic advisor and when she called I explained everything. She informed me that there were notes on my account from when my FA advisor spoke to my mom (FA advisor said that never happened). I also asked that they fax all the FA documents they had on me and they said they would but once again I never received it. After speaking with my academic advisor she told me she had no idea this was happening and she would get to the bottom of it. She set up another appt for 2 days later. I received an email she forwarded that was from my FA advisor saying that they needed a letter from my mom, but never a call back. I have tried to contact them they dont return my calls or answer any questions they always have to transfer me then we get disconnected.
