On February 29, I responded to an unsolicited email guaranteeing a profit-making, online rebate program through Angela Penbrook's Penbrook Productions. The website gives the impression of an innocent, former welfare mom in a underprivileged situation discovering a way to amass a huge fortune in a relatively short period, making skillful use of that often-used "... If I can do it, anybody can do it..." plug.
At the time, it appeared legitimate, but once I signed up, and encountered technical issues, there was no support. I phoned, with no answer. I could never leave any messages due to the fact that the voicemail box was always full. None of my emails were ever returned.
Incidentally, on March 5, someone claiming to have connections with Penbrook Productions "phished" me as a potential candidate for a "Success Team." He phoned me. The individual who called himself "Johnnie" could not be of any assistance with the Rebate Program for which I signed up. But he wanted to qualify me for a business opportunity with a minimum investment. Now the red flags really jumped. When I declined his offer, he added that he could not provide anthing more on Penbrook Productions other than the 800 number, which I already had.
Not long afterwards, I used the 800 number, was on hold for quite a while, and eventually I heard what sounded like a child's voice answer. The girl appeared to read from a script, but could offer no assistance as to my request for technical assistance. She gave me the email address, and said that was all she could do. She kept asking me if it were O.K.
