I took my daughter to a hotel audition for the Academy of Cinema and Television (ACT). I was there with about 100 people. They said they were very selective in who they worked with and made me make a decision right away about signing my daughter up for classes. The "National Talent Scout" Lily, who didn't even have a business card, said if I didn't pay her they would have several other kids to take my daughter place. Unfortunately I let the pressure get the best of me and gave them my credit card. The next day I sent off a certified letter of cancellation and started try to contact them to cancel. No one took my calls or returned my messages. After a couple days of getting the run around, I called my credit card company to reverse the charges. They told me that they have received several complaints just like mine and were looking into suspending their account with them.
I just want other parents to be very careful. Every legitimate company honors their cancellation policy and doesn't hide with your money! I also started doing extra research on ACT. I contacted Disney and they said ACT or their "Agents" does not cast or have authority to cast parts on Hannah Montana (like their radio ad said).
Also, since they are supposedly so selective and only take a limited number of people. Why did they continue doing searches in my town for several weeks??? Didn't they take enough money from us yet?
