In September our company was contacted by unsolicited fax transmission and repeated phone calls by a collections company called Joseph, Stevens and Associates. Our company refused at first to hand over any accounts to them, despite their forceful tactics to get us to do so.
However, early in November (around the 15th) my boss notified me that we do indeed need a collections company to work on some of our receivables. This is when we contacts Joseph Steven and Associates to collect some debt owed to us.
The first phone call with Joseph Steven and Associates was pleasant. The company reassured us that if they do not collect any money, then we will not have to pay them any amount of money. We proceeded to sign a contract (you can find a copy attached.)
Everything was going fine, until I inquired about the status of the account we turned over to Joseph Steven and Associates. The representatives that were handling the account suddenly became rude and ill-mannered. Not a single employee at Joseph Steven and Associates could furnish ANY proof that our case was being worked on. When I demanded that they close our account, they demanded we pay the 10% closing feewhich we were not aware of.
The employees have continued to ignore our calls and requests, along with fax transmissions. When they do in fact answer our calls, they are extremely belligerent and verbally abusive. They also never give straight answers.
I proceeded to do some research on Joseph Steven and Associates on the Better Business Bureau website. I noticed they have an F grade and have acquired 131 complaints!
My question is, what can I, and all these other companies do about this scamming company? After so many recorded complaints, I don't understand how this company is doing business any more. I hope that my complaint will help aid you in this investigation, before more consumers are hurt by this scam.
