I try all kinds of contests, sweepstakes, etc. So it seemed possible that this letter saying I had won $52,970.00 could be real. The check sent with the letter for $2,970.00 sure looked good.
The letter told me to deposit the check and then send them $2,570.00 so they could release the other $50,000.00 to me. Now that just seemed wrong to me.
Doing a bit of checking I found that "Cadence Capital Management, LLC" in Boston, MA did exist. (They issued the check)
The check was drawn on the "National City Bank of Pennsylvania". Which also did exist. The letter was mailed from Canada. The phone number I was told to call is in Manitoba, Canada.
Next I searched the number I was suppose to call: 204-962-7031. This lead me to The complaint. Which, in turn, showed the whole thing as a scam.
At this point I just stopped "checking" this thing out. At least I didn't deposit the check or spend money calling the issueing bank for information.
Thanks complaint.
