The Everett school staff are a joke. I took a Medical Billing course with the instructor not even happy with the curriculum. Matter of fact, both instructors who teach this course are leaving.
They have you doing so much in what they call Core Mod, it's ridiculous. Upon enrolling, they tell you they understand that you have a Life, but then you get all this homework and begin to wonder what you have done.
After Core Mod, it's easier, but again, you don't focus on the job related stuff.
There is so much they cram into the 6 weeks, then expect you to find your own extern site to complete the 180 hours for this program.
I moved out of town after finishing class work and let them know 2 months ahead of time. 2 weeks prior to completion, the extern coordinator didn't know what I was talking about! Asked me questions that she should have had the answer to. When I complained to the President, she stuck up for her employee and asked me what did I want her to do!
They ended up finding me an extern site before I left. I interviewed to find out the site was being audited and I would be doing a lot of filing. I was ok with that. The extern coordinator wasn't. Keep in mind, everyone who externs, does not get a lot of exposure to duties pertaining to their course. The key is to complete their hours. If the school has a high course completion percent, this is why.
Anyway, that extern fell through and you only have 14 days from the interview to stay within the attendance regulations. On the 14th day they found me another site and told me to get the interview verification form After the company faxes it.
Well, the site's fax was broken. My extern coordinator calls me the next afternoon to pass the buck. I tell her I am busy and cannot go until next week (Monday). She calls me back 2 hours later to tell me that she got my deadline extended again, but that I'm responsible for get this form in on Monday.
Why didn't she tell me this after my interview? Better still, the morning after my interview?
The school thinks you're going to be office material after the course. You're just glad to be done with school!
Wherever you go, the company will train you. The school needs to spend more time on the computer programs that are used as a Medical Biller, Coding and Terminology, instead of Transcription, Customer Service, Law & Ethics and Fordney; which by the way the instructors cannot stand, because it's outdated. Take a Terminology, ICD-9/HCPCS course and save some of the $10,000.
