While doing my weekly online review of Visa purchases I noticed a "pending" charge of $10 not yet posted to my account. Upon considerable investigation, and after closing down my Visa account, I tracked the charge to WLI Reservation Rewards.
Further investigation tracked the "membership" to an online purchase made at PETCO.com.
It seems that at the end of the PETCO transaction they offer you a code for use on future purchases. It turns out that by clicking to retrieve the code, you are automatically enrolled in a Reservation Rewards program, (PETCO denies this). All information entered at the PETCO site, including credit card information, is automatically transferred to your "enrollment" without your knowledge or acceptance.
Thanks to information from your site I am being issued new Visa account numbers, have contacted WLI Reservation Rewards and demanded satisfaction, and have received a cancellation confirmation for the faux membership, as well as a promise of reversal of the pending charges.
Of course all parties, with the exception of the credit card company, claim I knowingly enrolled in this program.
Shoppers using the PETCO site beware. All is not as it appears to be!
