I attended DeVry University on false pretences. First off I was lured in by a college scout who told me that the DeVry located in Columbus, Ohio would be getting the program I wanted (Gaming and Simulation) which was the only reason I was attending the poor excuse of a Education. Well, as the deceitful scout filled my head with lies, such as there would be transportation provided where I could make it to school on time and the fact that I would be living close to school and she also told me that Id be able to get a job right away to pay this tremendous Housing ripoff known as Collegiate Housing, Which I believe is part of there scam.
Lets start by telling the begining, I arrived in a decent living enviroment known as Gateway Lakes Apartments, Now in no way am I saying that they had anything to do with the scam but there sub provider known as Collegiate Housing which ran through the school and rented from Lakes. They charged me and my three other roomates 319.00 each to stay in a small little apartment and then halfway through my stay I findout that individuals who rent from Gateway Lakes only pay around 350.00 for the same services, that seems fair? Yeah right!
So after finding this out I tried to leave, then they slammed paperwork in my face stating that I signed a lease agreement that makes me pay 3 months rent and 50 dollars inorder to leave, so they got me trapped in there money making "DeVry Housing Plan".
Now onto the next screw over, Earlier I mentioned the lying scout telling me about transportation. Ok heres what happened! Well, me and my other roomates started off in a car pool with one of our driving roomates well after a week of school the car broke down, so we were forced to ride the so "Good" transportation she told me about that supposedly got me to school and ontime. Well, that was so untrue, The bus system would drive us around for three hours downtown. So, this meens Id have to catch the bus 4 hrs before my class started, and by the time me and my roomates arrived the class was halfway over and marked us a tardies. Well, I tried explaining this to the attendance people and they did nothing to help me, then I tried to set up a class schedule that would work with the bus, which was impossible because some classes can only been taken at whatever time and know full time student can have a full school day while taking a bus schedule that changes every month, so, I missed the begining of classes and had to leave in the middle of them so I wouldnt miss the last bus pickup. Which interms meens this school had no transportation that worked. LIE!
Now onto another lie by a represenative of DeVry, the scout mentioned work oppurtunites, she said they were high. LIE!
It took me 4 months to get a job, the school didnt help me and even the fast food joints didnt hire. And I had about 4 years of worked at two fastfood places. But, then I finally got a job at Walmart, and about $400.00 in missed rent payments, they charge you a 100.00 if you dont make your rent payments ontime.
Now for the biggiest screw job of this DeVry. I was told by the scout that I would be able to take my program in Gaming and Simulation towards the second semester, she said they would have it. Well, for my first semester I was told to take these classes, that were close to my program, in general the first semester was worthless and did nothing for my degree in Simulation and Gaming. Then the second semester came along and still no program so I asked the higher up and the people that assigned the classes where my program was, they simply insured me that it would be here definitely next semester, that evidently the state of Ohio did not allow the program into the schools yet but they "Soon" would. So, there I was waiting for my promise, my program, and yet again another let down.
Well, after missing and being tardy for class due to my transportation problem, I was afraid of being kicked out, mainly cause several others who went there were being kicked out towards the end of our second semester due to the same problems. I swear to it that at the begining of school we had 70% more students then what we had towards the end of the second semester. Anyhow, I called and left several messages and wrote email after email to the head dean, and it took her two weeks to email me back. She set me up for a meeting to talkover my problems. Well, after telling her of all these problems and of the lies, she simply said Im sorry that you were lied to and she told me that they wasnt getting the Gaming and Simulation program anytime soon, and that I was put on the list to be kicked out due to the fact that I had to drop classes I couldnt get to and I wasnt meeting the progressive factor, but, after telling my story she told me that I could appeal the kickout and I would win cause she understood what happened. But, I declined, Why would I stay at a school that did nothing but lie to me and put me into debt and totally screwup my hopes of a Education?
The worst thing is that everyone in my apartment and atleast 2 other apartments out of 5 in our area who went to DeVry each one holding 4 people ended up leaving or getting kicked out due to the same circumstances.
Most of which were going for the Gaming and Simulation program.
I advise anyone who has been lied to like myself and cheated by DeVry to speakup and inform all those people who have hopes of a education of this horrible college that does not give you what they promise but a whole bunch of debt for you about 20 thousand for two semesters worth.
Anyone who has been cheated like myself speakup with me and lets do something about it, I have others behind me that will also post there insight of this promise breaking, debt making, scam of a school!
How they screwed me into debt and unhappiness:
Step 1: Scout lied to me / No Program
Step 2: Got me to sign a unfair housing plan
Step 3: Did not place me close to the school
Step 4: Took me 4 months to find a Job
Step 5: Did not provide or have good transportation/And did nothing to help me.
Final Outcome= DEBTThan education
