Ripoff Dishonest Fraudulent Liars! Are you getting ripped off by your college?

I just graduated high school back in June 06. Next step: College. I want to be a nurse but dodnt want to be in debt up to my ears. So I decided to go to a technical school (Southwestern College) just to get a certificate to get my foot in the door somewhere. So I talked to someone there about there Phlebotomy course.

Well, the first quarter went just fine. Classes three nights a week, which is part-time. Made Presidents list with a 4.0 perfect attendance. Doing really well.

Second quarter, which I'm in now. Four classes a week and three saturday mornings. Suddenly my part-time schooling turns into full time. This is required. So I adjust to that, put then I realize none of my teachers this quarter have any teaching degree of any kind. (so that has me a little worried) I asked about it. The response: "At the end of last quarter, between firing and quiting we had to replace seven of our faculty members." (That still doesn't answer my question, but okay.) By the end of my first week, in my second quarter, I realize that I'm taking classes for Medical Assisting. So my first thought was, okay I'm getting extra skills in my field, that will help me later on.

Once I get to my actual Phlebotomy class, then thats when I begin to believe that this school is a joke.

My Phlebotomy teacher is new. She's never taught before. She doesn't have a clue. She doesn't know the tubes, the needles anything. Her teaching method is, read over the material in your book we'll have a test on it next week. I can't learn like that. I don't think anyone can. Then, last week, we went over the material briefly in the book. Practiced hand washing, and located our material in the classroom. Then, without introducing safety precautions, hazardous material, infection control, learning how to palpate, which tube to use, how to position the needle or anything for our safety or the patients, we go ahead and start drawing blood on each other.

Yeah, this school is on the ball. I would say that's a safety violation and a health hazard.

So, my frustration is this: I just layed out thousands of dollars to further my education and expand my options in the work field, and now I'm supposed to learn how to be a professional Phlebotomist from a book? The way I see it I could of went to Borders or Barnes and Noble bought the Phlebotomy book for twenty bucks, learned the material that way and saved bout eight grand.

Do You Feel My Frustration???
