When I was in the 10th grade I went to Dr. Ernsdorf — the school's psychiatrist — for help with learning. I knew something was wrong... I couldn't read, I couldn't pay attention, but I knew stuff and could figure out how to get along on my own. The SATs were coming up soon, so I went to the shool shrink to ask about the possibility of learning disabilities. After looking at other standardized test scores, he came to me and said it's not that I have learning disabilities, but rather I'm just "not smart enough." He then told me to drop all my honors classes and forget about the SATs, because I am "not college material."
I soon left this school for a better one, where I was properly diagnosed. Following acknowledgement of my learning disabilities, I was able to graduate from High School on time, attend and graduate from UCLA in 4 year (and a quarter), and am now persuing a masters degree.
This was a school shrink, so I didn't lose any money, but the guy needs to be removed. It is highly inappropriate to be telling children that they are not college material and to drop honors classes!
