One month ago Membership plus stole 21.95 from my checking account. Since I have recently had to deal with my bank's fraud department on another hairy matter I chose not to report it at the time and just had to eat the 21.95 as they told me that they can't do any refunds... They said "this is just the cancelation department." No supervisors to speak to, no other departments to be transfered to and no main line. They said they can cancel the account but that's all they can do.
One month later it happened again... 21.95 out of my account and this time it caused my account to go negative causing a $35 overdraft fee. When I called the number this time I argued for several minutes with the operator who at first told me the same thing... That they can not authorize a refund... But then after yelling at this person for about 10 minutes she said "we just issued you a refund... Please allow 7-10 business days for it to go through"
This time I will be reporting them to the fraud department. I have no idea how they are getting away with this. It is pure robbery from people who obviously can't afford it already.
