My babysitter borrowed my car in February for a night out. She was stopped by the police and charged with DWI. Suffolk County then imponded the car.
I am a mother of 3, newly divorced and broke. The monthly car payment was a strain. The County would not give the car back to me, even though I was not driving nor charged with any wrongdoing.
The County would only give the car back to the finance company and only if the finance company promised not to give it back to me.
I stopped making payments because I simply could not afford to pay for two vehicles.
The car was given to the finance company and promptly auctioned whereupon I was billed for the difference plus impound fees.
Now my credit is ruined and I did nothing wrong. Never charged with a crime, Suffolk County stole my car and ruined my finances.
Oh, everybody who works for Suffolk County cant tell anybody how huch impound fees are or even if they are assessed. They don't even know where they put the cars. This is a huge huge scam, unconstitutional and I have no way to recover what was taken from me.
