I responded to an open house presentation at Directbuy of Nassau County and was met with a high pressure sales pitch to purchase a 4768.00 membership. After threatening that I will never be permitted to join if I walked away from the sale, I decided to join. However, I told the sales person that i believed i had 3 days to think about it and i would be back if i decided against it.
I purchased the membership on a Saturday 7/1/06. They were closed on Sunday and Monday and Tuesday was a holiday 7/4/06. I returned to their office on Wednesday, the first buisness day after the sale and requested that my membership be cancelled. The sales person told me that this would not be possible and wanted to talk about why I changed my mind.
Since I was in no mood for small talk, I again requested that my membership be cancelled, as I was within the 3 day grace period. It was then, and only then, that the sales person told me that the membership could not be cancelled and they do not adhere to the 3 day rule.
I immediately left their office, contacted my credit card company and informed them of my intention to disupute the charges. I am presently in the process of disputing these charges and I am determined to win. If anyone has successfully fought these people, please respond to my story and tell me yours. I am hoping the credit card company has more muscle than I do.
