AIU - American InterContinental University
Possible Student, people who are unaware may find these acts questionable

I recently made the choice to inquire about AIU. However upon my inquiry about the school, I was in return asked many questions about myself. The admission's advisor agressively made efforts to push me into enrolling into the university when all I wanted was information about the school. If I asked anything about the university, I was given a long drawn out explanation about their accreditation and the benefits of receiving a degree from them.

Over and over, I told him I wanted to do more research about the university. Oh, but that was a no-no according to him. So obviously, red flags began to rise and instincts told me that something was not right. This is how I found this site.

From the initial discussion, I questioned the fact that they didn't need my credits from my previous college experience. And even though, they may have requested the transcript authorization form, who's to say they are even going to actually use it. I was also leery about the cost of tution for ony one year.

Anyhow, I checked out the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools website and found that AIU has been placed on probation. Now what does that mean? The Colleges on Commision Report for 2006 describes it as,

" When an institution fails to document compliance with a Core Requirement, the Commission places the institution on one of two sanctions, Warning, the lesser of the two, or Probation. These sanctions alert the public to the Commission's identification of serious issues of non-compliance that could result in loss of membership if not corrected. Sanctions may also be imposed on institutions that fail to document sufficient progress towards achieving compliance with Comprehensive Standards or Federal Requirements."

My admission advisor constantly boasted about the university's accreditation, but failed to tell me they had been placed on probation. Personally, I wouldn't want to pay anyone a year's worth of $30,000 when the standards that are being used aren't as up to par as advertised.

I'm all for pursuing an online education as long as eveyone understands what they are getting into. I personally wanted to share this information with everyone because some people who are unaware may find these acts questionable, while others may want to continue to pursue an interest.

To each his own.
