I received an UrgentGram in the mail claiming I had been identified as a possible recipient for a government grant of at least $5,000. They had Education Housing, Health, Business, and Disaster Relief.
I called them wondering if this could be true. I had a call from a foreign person before, and that one I didn't fall for, but this was different. The person I spoke with had no accent and she spoke perfect English.
I did the application over the phone, but I wouldn't give any extra information. Nothing was said about my having to pay anything and I was given a no. To call back the next day for the results.
I waited for three days and when I called back, I was informed it was found I qualified for the grants. That is when she tried to get me to set up a draft for a later date from my checking account. They were asking for $299. When we told her we didn't have that much in our account, that was when she said we could set up a draft.
That is when I became suspicious. My husband was saying that we could give them the information, and I shook my head no. He realized I knew something was up. I told her we were not interested. Then she told me if I changed my mind later, my information would be kept on record.
What bothers me the most is the people who have had devastating losses. They might think this is a bonafide offer and go for it only to be ripped off. I want to see this company be put out of business for good.
